AIM

The Planning and carriage of containers some of them carrying dangerous cargo, on ships is a responsible task, in which every link of chain is important. In today's scenario, where most of this work is done ashore and often by BPO's training of office staff is an essential part of ensuring the safety of cargo, ship, and reputation of the carrier. This course covers the requirements of the US 49 CFR Hazmat regulations.

OBJECTIVES

To enables the participants to:
  • Have an overview of transport of cargo by Containers, in particular, the transport of Dangerous Cargo.
  • Have a deeper understanding of the IMDG Code and other International requirements with respect to transport of Dangerous Goods.
  • Be able to effectively apply the knowledge in the work environment and be aware of the consequences of errors in documentation.

  • Introduction to Container Trade.
  • Video on Safe packing & carriage of containers by ships.
  • Dangerous cargo regulations, UN Recommendations, Orange Book, UN Rule making bodies like IMO, UN GET DG.
  • IMDG Code, History, contents and layout of books, MFAG, EMS.
  • Classes of DG - detailed study, Marine pollutants.
  • Packaging of DG, Special provisions, Limited quantities.
  • IMDG Code DG List - intensive exercises.
  • Provisions concerning transport operations, stowage.
  • Investigative Case studies like Hanjin Pennsylvania explosion.
  • 49 CFR, US Customs and security regulations.
  • Documentation, MSDS, Billing of Lading, Use of EDI.
