OBJECTIVES

This course is primarily designed to provide training for all Seafaring personnel (officers/Engineers). The course covers certain practical aspects of recommended training using the concept of pyramid tiered structure related to Quality & Safety Management. It aims at integrating ISO 9001:2000 Standards and the ISM Code requirements with the Quality and Safety Management System (QSMS).

On completion of this course, the trainee should be able to understand the concepts & importance of (1) Policy Manual known as Apex Manual, (2) Procedure Manual-which defines responsibilities related to all controlled activities affecting Quality, Safety and pollution prevention & (3) Work Instructions Manual Viz: Tanker Safety Manual, Tanker Operations Manual, Bridge Manual, Engine Room Manual, Health Safety & Environmental Manual, Shipboard Contingency Plan, Shore Emergency Response Plan, SOLAS Training Manual, Garbage Management, Preventive Maintenance System Plan (PMS) for Deck, QSMS Circulars etc. for the effective implementation and maintenance of QSMS. It will also give a practical approach in dealing with the external & internal Quality Auditors and to comply with their requirements so as to avoid non-conformities/deficiencies.

Evaluation & Assessment: Evaluation is being carried out by conducting a running Assessment of the participants during the course and the purpose/basis of assessment is to verify if the participants have assimilated the concepts and importance of ‘Quality and Safety Management System’.
