SHIP SAFETY OFFICER COURSE
AIM
The aim of the Ship Safety Officer Course is to reduce the number of job related fatalities, illnesses and injuries. This can be effectively achieved by establishing on board ships a workplace safety and health programme
OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course the trainee should be able to perform the following :
- Carry out the role of ship’s safety officer
- Carry out risk assessment and accident reporting
- Carry out safety audits and inspections
- Create a safety culture aboard ship.
TRAINING PLAN
The course will cover the following topics :
- International Health and Safety Legislation
- Duties of Employer
- Duties of Safety Officer
- Powers of safety representatives
- ISM Code Safety Management System – procedures
- Accident Reduction
- Hazard Identification
- Creating a Safety Culture.
Practical workshops would include but not confined to:-
- Risk Assessment
- Safety Inspections
- Creating a safety culture through teamwork.

Eligibility: All Ship Officers including Masters and Chief Engineers.
