SHIP SECURITY OFFICER COURSE
(CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY FOR SHIP SECURITY OFFICER)
AIM
This intensive course meets the requirements of the ISPS Code for Ship Security Officers. It has been designed to give ships offices a full understanding of the Code, how to implement the Code and related legislation to fulfill the documentation requirements and maintain and effective security system for their operation.
OBJECTIVES
On completion of the course the trainees should:
- Understand the Principles and Responsibilities of National and International Requirements.
- Maintain ship security plans.
- Appreciate security levels.
- Develop and maintain measures for the control of access to the level.
- Conduct ship security and risk assessments.
- Implement effective search mechanisms and security controls.
TRAINING PLAN
The course is highly realistic and practical in nature combining considerable role play and exercises to consolidate the theoretical material. The course will cover the following topics.
- The Amendments to the 1974 SOLAS Convention, New Chapter XI-2
- The International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code Parts A & B.
- IMO requirements to the SSA and IMO Model course 3.19
- Identification of possible motives and key shipboard operations.
- Identification of existing security measures, procedures and operations.
- Identification of possible threat scenarios and vulnerability (risk) assessment.
- Development of Onboard Ship Security Survey Checklist.
- Onboard Ship Security Survey.
- Identification of weakness, remedial actions.
